JEDI INCLUSION TOOLKIT
Reviewing and Updating Policies With a JEDI Lens
Check your policies work for everyone they cover, not just the people they were first written for. You finish with a policy suite audit grid, a review record for each policy and dated updates.
What is this inclusive policy review template?
Reviewing and Updating Policies With a JEDI Lens is an inclusive policy review template and guidance module in the JEDI Inclusion Toolkit. It helps you audit your whole policy suite, choose what to review first, check each policy's terms and impact using your data and feedback, and keep a dated record of what changed and why.
Who it's for
- HR and People teams who own the policy suite
- Leaders who approve policy changes
- B Corp certification leads working on JEDI2.c
Why do policies fall behind?
Most policies are written for a reason at one point in time, then only updated when the law changes. Few are checked for who they serve well and who they leave out. A leave policy that assumes one kind of family, a dress code that rules out religious dress or an absence policy that treats every absence the same can all land hard on the people they were never written for.
People usually find out a policy does not fit them at the worst moment, during illness, bereavement or starting a family. Managers fill the gaps with their own judgement, so people in similar situations get treated differently, and there is no record of what was ever checked.

Questions we get asked
What does reviewing a policy with a JEDI lens mean?
Checking each policy for the terms it uses, who it might leave out or treat unfairly and what would help more people, then recording what you changed and why.
Which policies should we review first?
Start with the policies that affect people most often or at the hardest moments, such as recruitment, leave, absence, flexible working and grievance. The policy suite audit grid helps you set the order.
Is an EDI policy enough on its own?
No. An EDI or diversity and inclusion policy states your intent, but everyday policies decide how people are actually treated, so the whole suite needs reviewing.
How often should policies be reviewed?
Set a regular cycle for each policy, and review sooner if the law changes, your workforce changes or feedback tells you something is not working.
How does this module support B Corp JEDI2?
It supports JEDI2.c. Your audit grid and review records show which policies you reviewed, what you found and what changed.
What support do we get?
You can email us with questions as you work through the module, and book a call with James and Dave to talk through getting the most from it.
Can we suggest new templates or features?
Yes. Tell us what you would like to see added. We build the toolkit around what the people using it need.
Is this module a certification?
No. Includability does not assess, certify, accredit or verify anything. B Lab assesses and certifies B Corps. The module helps you do the work and gather the evidence.
Not sure which modules you need?
A Cultural Roadmap with a JEDI Gap Analysis shows you, so you start where your gaps are.
The Roadmap shows the gaps. The toolkit closes them and produces your evidence.
Need the data first?
We build and run your Self-ID Survey and hand you a board-ready report.
